What will the project look like?

The Bobcat Energy Center is a proposed energy storage facility designed to safely store and deliver energy to the electric grid when it is needed most.

The facility will include battery enclosures along with supporting electrical equipment necessary to store energy and deliver energy back to the grid. This equipment is not dissimilar from what can be found at electrical substations throughout the region.

The project is designed with setbacks from neighboring property lines, and screening measures will be incorporated to reduce visibility from nearby roads and properties. How did you choose this location?

Selecting a location for an energy storage project involves evaluating a variety of factors, including access to the electric grid, land availability, environmental considerations, and partnerships with landowners.

The Bobcat Energy Center is proposed near existing electrical infrastructure, allowing the project to leverage and support the local electric grid. Locating the project near existing grid facilities helps reduce the need for additional infrastructure, while allowing the facility to efficiently connect and support the local grid.

What considerations are being taken to ensure project safety?

Safety is out highest priority throughout the design, construction, and operation of energy storage systems in our portfolio. The Bobcat Energy Center will be designed, installed, and operated in accordance with applicable national, state, and local requirements for energy storage systems and emergency safety.

Each battery enclosure will include layers of monitoring and protection systems designed to detect and respond to abnormal operating conditions. These systems may include temperature monitoring, smoke and gas detection, alarms, automated controls, and fire protection equipment. The facility will be monitored around the clock, allowing operators to quickly identify and respond to potential issues.

In addition to the safety systems incorporated into the facility, East Point works closely with local emergency responders to support planning, coordination, and training opportunities. This collaboration helps ensure first responders are familiar with the facility and are prepared to respond effectively in the unlikely event of an incident. They are a flexible grid asset that can be located where they provide the greatest benefit to the electrical system. Today, BESS facilities support electric reliability in communities ranging from rural Texas and suburban Virginia to major metro areas such as New York City.

Battery energy storage systems are a proven and rapidly growing part of our nation’s electric grid. Today energy storage facilities operate across the United States, helping to maintain reliable electric service. By mid-2026, the United States had nearly 52,000 MW of operational grid-scale battery storage capacity, with Texas leading the way.

Texas is one of the nation’s leaders for energy storage. According to the Texas Solar and Storage Association, the Lone-Star State has more than 15,000 MW of installed energy storage capacity and continues to add new projects as electricity demand grows and grid operators seek additional tools to support reliability.

How long will the Bobcat Energy Center operate? What happens at the end of its life?

The Bobcat Energy Center is expected to operate for at least 20 years, though the lifespan of this project may be extended through routine maintenance, equipment upgrades, and the replacement or augmentation of battery components as the technology continues to evolve. Like all battery systems, energy storage batteries gradually lose capacity over time. However, battery energy storage technology has been successfully operating for decades, and project operators can replace or upgrade components to maintain performance throughout the facility’s lifetime.

At the end of the project’s life, the facility will be decommissioned in accordance with applicable regulations, permit requirements, and industry standards. Equipment will be removed from the site and recycled, repurposed, or disposed of through approved facilities and processes. The battery recycling industry continues to grow alongside the energy storage sector, creating new opportunities to recover valuable materials and support a more circular supply chain for future projects.
